Wilnecote Weekly Update - 17th April 2026

{item_alt_tag}

Dear Parents and Carers,

It gives me great pleasure to write my first newsletter as Wilnecote Junior Academy’s new Head of School. I would like to thank everyone for the warm welcomes I have received. I am truly excited to be part of such a positive and supportive community.

I hope you all enjoyed a restful Easter break and were able to spend some quality time with family and friends. The children have returned to school with enthusiasm and a ready to learn attitude. They have made me feel extremely welcome by confidently introducing themselves as they see me around school. I have been extremely impressed by the way they demonstrate our school values, taking ‘PRIDE’ in everything they do.

Parent Coffee Meet and Greet

I would like to warmly invite parents and carers to a Coffee Meet and Greet on Thursday 23rd April at 9:00am. After drop-off, please feel free to pop into the Music Room to meet me in person. This will be an informal opportunity to say hello and ask me any questions you may have.

I very much look forward to meeting you.

Mrs Harridence

Summer Term Reminder

As we approach the Summer Term, we kindly ask for your support in helping children stay healthy and comfortable during the warmer weather.

Water Bottles
Please ensure that your child brings a filled water bottle to school every day. Staying hydrated is especially important as temperatures rise, and having easy access to water helps children keep focused and energised throughout the day.

Sun Protection
On sunny days, please send your child to school wearing sun cream. If they may need to reapply it during the school day, you are welcome to provide a labelled bottle of sun cream for them to use. Please note that children must be able to apply their own sun cream.

Thank you for your continued support in keeping our pupils safe and comfortable this term.

Art Sculpture Shoe Boxes

If you have any shoe boxes that you can donate to school, please send them in with the children. Our pupils will be very grateful as their sculpture designs are amazing and they will be able to bring them to life.

Reading challenge

Thank you to all of our families who took part in the  Reading challenge. We have really enjoyed seeing all the cosy places where you read.

Are you switched on to your child’s online privacy?

At Wilnecote Junior Academy, we teach children about staying safe online as part of our curriculum. But online safety doesn’t stop at the school gate. If you’re a parent or carer of a child aged 4-11, there’s a new campaign that could make a real difference to their safety online.

Every time children use apps, games or websites, information is collected about them - often without them realising. This can include their location, habits and even their mood.

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has launched a free campaign called Switched on to privacy to help parents and carers of children aged 4–11 start these conversations. It’s built around three simple steps:

  • Chat with your child about online privacy.
  • Choose actively what personal information to share.
  • Check the settings whenever your child uses a new device or app.

Just like we teach children to cross the road safely, we can help them build smart habits online. Small conversations now can make a big difference as your child grows up.

Find free tips, videos and conversation starters at ico.org.uk/switch-on-to-privacy/?utm_source=toolkit&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=sotp.

Staywell Digital Training Schedule

Please find the latest dates for the Staywell Digital Training Sessions on the newsletter webpage, or you can collect a copy from the main reception.

Parking Reminder for Parents and Carers

To help keep our children safe and to ensure the smooth running of drop-off and pick-up times, we kindly remind all parents and carers to park safely and responsibly around the school site. Please support us by following the guidance below:

  • Avoid parking on yellow zig-zag lines or in any restricted areas.
  • Do not park across or block local residents’ driveways, even for a short time.
  • Keep pedestrian crossings and footpaths clear at all times to support safe access.
  • Use designated parking areas wherever possible, and avoid stopping in the middle of the road.
  • Drive slowly and stay highly alert, especially during busy periods when children may be harder to see.
  • Only use the staff car park with prior permission, as this area must remain accessible and safe for those working onsite.

Thank you for your ongoing support in helping us maintain a safe environment for our pupils and a respectful relationship with our neighbours.

Celebrations

The House Champions this week were Team Peel.
