Wilnecote Weekly Update - 9th October 2026

{item_alt_tag}

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you to every parent who attended Parents' Evening this week. It was wonderful to see so many families in school and to strengthen the valuable partnership between home and school that helps our children thrive.

We hosted our Book Fair, packed with a fantastic range of books. It was wonderful to see so many children excitedly exploring the shelves, discovering new stories and finding books they were eager to read.

We have also relocated our library to a new area of the school, creating an inviting space where pupils can browse, discover and enjoy a wide range of books. The new location gives children even greater access to reading throughout the school day and helps place books at the heart of school life.

To round off our reading-focused week, we welcomed local Tamworth author Ben Davis into school. Ben, author of popular children's books including the Lenny Lemmon series, The Soup Movement, My Brilliant Plan to Fix Everything and The Private Blog of Joe Cowley, shared his passion for reading and writing with our pupils, inspiring the next generation of readers and storytellers.

Year 6 Science Lesson

Please could all Year 6 children bring an empty jar into school by Friday for a practical Science lesson. Thank you for your support.

Year 5 Staffing Update

We are delighted to share that Miss Richardson is expecting her first baby. She will begin her maternity leave after Christmas, and we will confirm the exact date in due course. We are already planning carefully for this transition to ensure continuity for the children, with a thorough handover and a teacher who shares our values and high expectations. As always, our priority is to provide consistency, stability and excellent teaching so that all children continue to thrive.

Sustainability Fridays

Apologies for any confusion caused, but we have renamed our Forest Fridays to Sustainability Fridays. This change better reflects our aim of helping children develop a deeper understanding of sustainability, environmental responsibility and the positive actions they can take to care for the world around them.

On these days, children may come to school wearing suitable clothing for outdoor learning, such as wellington boots, trainers, waterproof coats and clothes that they do not mind getting a little muddy. Activities will continue to include exploration, practical learning and opportunities to engage with the natural environment.

If you have any questions, please speak to your child's class teacher.

Shared Learning at Home

Next Friday, children will bring home their Maths books for you to look through and celebrate the learning they have been completing in school. This is a wonderful opportunity to talk with your child about their mathematical understanding and the progress they have made. Please ensure that all Maths books are returned to school on Monday so that learning can continue as planned. Thank you for your support.

Summer Reading Challenge Results

We are proud to announce that our school finished 6th place in the Summer Reading Challenge. A fantastic achievement that reflects our pupils' enthusiasm and love of reading. Well done to everyone who took part!

Harvest Food Bank Collection - Reminder

A reminder that we are collecting donations to support families and individuals in our local community through our local food bank as part of our Harvest celebrations. Food banks rely on the kindness and generosity of local people, and every donation helps provide essential food and household items to those who need them most.

If you are able to contribute, we would be very grateful for your support. Together, we can make a real difference to those facing challenging circumstances.

Please send any donations into school by Monday 19th October.

We encourage families to check whether they qualify and to explore the activities available in their area.

See the leaflets attached at the bottom of the newsletter for further details and eligibility information.
